With food safety concerns, such as BSE, it is becoming critical to have a complete story for each animal – when it was born, where/how it was raised, pedigree and progeny information, as well as where and when it was processed into meat. A complete “birth-to-beef” history ensures any food safety concerns are easily investigated.
Agri-Food Knowledge Solutions has both the system and experience to help make collecting information an easy task. Our mandate is to provide confidence and assurance in collecting, maintaining and retiring agri-information.

Since May 2003, a number of key Canadian export markets have been requiring the cattle and beef they import to be age verified. For instance, the US allows entry only to live cattle and beef under thirty months old. Japan requires beef to be verified as coming from cattle under 21 months. Through a joint project with the Ontartio Cattlemen's Association funded by the Canada-Ontario Research and Development Program (CORD), Agri-Food Knowledge Solutions is offering a two-part service to Ontario producers to help them open up market access through age and health verification of their calves: This is a three-year pilot project.
